LUKE HUMPHRIES ENDS DROUGHT WITH PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP 4 TRIUMPH, POSTS DAY'S HIGHEST AVERAGE

Luke Humphries claimed his first Players Championship title in over a year by defeating Wessel Nijman 8-6 in the final of Players Championship 4 in Wigan. The victory marks the fifth Players Championship crown of Humphries' career, ending a drought that had stretched since the 26th tournament in 2024.

The 30-year-old Englishman, nicknamed "Cool Hand Luke," demonstrated his dominance throughout the event, highlighted by a quarterfinal victory over Niels Zonneveld where he posted the day's highest average of 108.53 in a 6-2 win. Humphries' performance in Wigan showcased both his scoring power and his ability to close out matches under pressure.

Callan Rydz recorded the second-highest average of the day with 107.80 during his 6-4 last-16 victory over compatriot Andrew Gilding. Rydz eventually fell in the semifinals to Nijman, who defeated him 7-3. Nijman himself completed the top three averages with a 107.36 in his 6-0 last-16 win over fellow Dutchman Marvin van Velzen.

The Pro Tour action continues with Players Championship 5 and 6 scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday respectively in Leicester. Additionally, the Poland Darts Open begins this Friday in Krakow, marking the first European Tour event ever held in Poland and the opening tournament of the 2026 European Tour season.
