Michael van Gerwen's participation in Night 3 of the Premier League Darts in Glasgow is uncertain as the Dutch star deals with health issues, casting doubt on his match against Luke Littler. Former professional Vincent van der Voort revealed on the Darts Draait Door podcast that Van Gerwen has "picked something up and is on antibiotics," adding, "Unfortunately, we still don't know for sure if Michael will play. I can't say yet that he'll be there. We'll have to wait and see over the coming days. Tests are being done, and I hope they find it quickly so it can be resolved. There's a chance he won't be there."
This potential absence comes at a sensitive time for Van Gerwen, who has made an excellent start to the new Premier League season. He won the opening night and reached another final last week in Antwerp, where he lost to Gerwyn Price, putting him at the top of the table after two nights. On the ProTour, he reached a semi-final and a quarter-final at the first two Players Championship events, building a solid platform in the race to qualify for the Players Championship Finals—a tournament he missed last year for the first time since its introduction in 2013.
The uncertainty extends beyond Glasgow, with the first Euro Tour event of the season scheduled this coming weekend in Poland. Van der Voort noted, "Everything is uncertain for now," regarding Van Gerwen's appearance there. This setback is particularly bitter as Van Gerwen seemed to be regaining stability after a difficult 2025, marked by disappointing results and off-the-oche turbulence including his divorce from Daphne. Van der Voort summed it up: "Every time you think it's turning the right way, something happens again."
