In a light-hearted interview for SportsJOE, Michael van Gerwen and Stephen Bunting engaged in a playful culture clash, with the Dutch star offering his verdict on British life. Van Gerwen pinpointed the English breakfast as "definitely" typical, but highlighted the airport pint as most striking: "If you go to an airport in England in the morning, whatever time it is, they're having a nice big pint." Bunting acknowledged the truth in that, noting many Britons start holidays with a pint at five or six a.m. Van Gerwen added with a grin: "And where's the sun cream? They never use it!"
The pair then tackled the ultimate test: making a proper British cup of tea. Bunting stated his preference for Yorkshire Tea, which Van Gerwen adopted. On preparation, Van Gerwen opted for two teabags, saying, "I normally use two teabags — otherwise it takes too long to get strong." Bunting, who usually adds milk first, judged the result decent but would add more milk. They agreed on a custard cream biscuit, though Bunting warned it's "not a good dunker — you dunk it once and it falls in your brew."
Van Gerwen also predicted British poll responses, correctly guessing that 73% don't believe Britain has the best cuisine and 61% think Bunting has the better walk-on song (Titanium). On whether Britons would give up tea or beer, both predicted tea would lose, matching the poll result of 60%. Van Gerwen, who admitted "I've never drunk beer in my life," was surprised the figure wasn't higher. Discussing darts as an Olympic sport, he noted 55% of Britons said no, adding, "For me it's a mix between entertainment and sport. Whatever people say, I don't really care."
In a final picture round, Van Gerwen instantly recognised a sausage roll—joking they're better in Holland—and the clothing brand Stone Island, quipping that "very handsome people wear that." Bunting declared Van Gerwen passed the British test, with the Dutchman closing: "I didn't make any mistakes — so I definitely pass."
