MATT EDGAR CLAIMS 15-YEAR-OLD MITCHELL LAWRIE IS 'BETTER THAN WHAT LUKE LITTLER WAS' AT SAME AGE

Former professional darter Matt Edgar has sparked discussion with a bold claim comparing teenage darts talents Mitchell Lawrie and Luke Littler. Edgar stated that 15-year-old Scot Mitchell Lawrie is currently ahead of where Luke Littler was at the same age. Lawrie, nicknamed "Wee Sox," is the world number one in the WDF and has been making serious strides, including reaching the final at Lakeside late last year, where he lost to Jimmy van Schie.

Lawrie's recent achievements include throwing a nine-darter in a 4-1 win over Ethan Hawden on the JDC Advanced Tour, where he posted a 103 average in his opening match and won the tournament. He was crowned WDF world number one earlier this month due to tournament victories at the Slovak Open and Slovak Masters. Additionally, Lawrie made history by becoming the first teenager ever to reach the WDF World Championship final and won the Scottish Classic earlier this season.

On The Mission Darts Podcast, Edgar elaborated: "Mitchell Lawrie is better than what Luke Littler was at this stage of his career. Now, does he hit the heights that Luke does? I doubt it because Luke is a unique talent that will, for me, now break the world's top five players of all time already. But at this stage of their careers, Mitchell is performing to a higher level than Luke did." Edgar noted he has closely followed Littler's journey from his World Championship debut, UK Open appearances, JDC performances, and time in Gibraltar.

Edgar highlighted Littler's achievements as a benchmark, including winning back-to-back titles at Bridlington in the England Classic, which he called "unbelievable" due to the strong field of players. Littler, before his 20th birthday, has collected ten major titles and was crowned world champion twice. Edgar's comments underscore Lawrie's rapid rise in the darts world, positioning him as a standout talent in the WDF circuit.
