SIX PLAYERS SECURE 2026 WDF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SPOTS AS QUALIFICATION RACE HEATS UP

The battle for places at the 2026 WDF World Championship at Lakeside is intensifying, with six players already assured of qualification as the 2025/26 ranking season reaches its early stages. Last weekend, Jack Drayton and Gemma Hayter joined the list of confirmed participants by winning the Gold-ranked Isle of Man Open, meeting the WDF's qualification criteria. They join a group that includes David Davies, Jason Brandon, Paul Krohne, Rhian O'Sullivan, Deta Hedman, and Priscilla Steenbergen, who had previously locked in their spots through strong performances on the international WDF tour.

Despite these early confirmations, the majority of the field remains wide open, with 76 spots still up for grabs in the coming months. Qualification runs through multiple pathways, including direct entry via major tournament wins like Gold-ranked events and points accumulation on international rankings. The provisional list of qualifiers, compiled according to WDF official rules through Sunday, March 8, includes names such as Jenson Walker, Mitchell Lawrie, James Beeton, Moreno Blom, Daniel Zapata, Leonard Gates, Corne Groeneveld, Raymond Smith, Andras Borbely, Ross Montgomery, Alex Williams, Ethan De Veyra, Hussein Rashid, Mick Lacey, Evan Suderman, Jean-Michel Legault, Franko Giuliani, Jonny Tata, Jack Sheppard, Thomas Junghans, Neil Duff, Cayden Smith, Ben Townley, Chris Lim, Joe Croft, Jarno Bottenberg, Cliff Prior, Alex Spellman, David Cameron, and Sybren Gijbels, alongside winners from events like the Denmark Open, Toronto Area Open, Steel Masters, New Zealand Open, Pacific Masters, and Philippines Open, plus regional ranking qualifiers and last-chance spots.

In the women's category, confirmed players include Deta Hedman (as world champion and Las Vegas Open winner), Lerena Rietbergen, Rhian O'Sullivan, Priscilla Steenbergen, Paula Jacklin, Paige Pauling, Lorraine Hyde, Anca Zijlstra, Kenzy Abdelhafez, Monica Ribeiro, Angela Aucoin, Jitka Cisarova, Nicole Regnaud, and Cali West, with additional spots reserved for winners of Gold & Platinum events and regional rankings. The youth and girls sections feature qualifiers like Mitchell Lawrie, Kaya Baysal, Milan Vanuytrecht, Toby Clements, Paige Pauling, and Rebecca Allen, alongside last-chance qualifiers. With numerous ranking tournaments still to come, the rest of the season promises to be compelling as players vie for their berths at the global season finale.
