GERWYN PRICE CLAIMS ANTWERP GLORY, VOWS TO KEEP CHASING MAJORS AMID 'BEST FORM EVER'

GERWYN PRICE CLAIMS ANTWERP GLORY, VOWS TO KEEP CHASING MAJORS AMID 'BEST FORM EVER'

Gerwyn Price triumphed at Night 2 of the Premier League Darts 2026 in Antwerp, defeating Michael van Gerwen 6-3 in the final at the AFAS Dome. The 40-year-old Welshman secured five Premier League points and a £10,000 bonus, rebounding from a quarter-final exit in Newcastle the previous week. Price admitted that early defeat "upset me a bit," but he focused on winning "one game" in Antwerp, a strategy that paid off handsomely.

Price described feeling "in the zone" during the final, comparing it to his Pro Tour experiences. "I feel like I can just black everything out and just stay in the zone," he said, noting it was "probably the only time tonight I felt like I was in the Pro Tour." Despite believing he is playing some of the best darts of his career—"In patches, yeah, I’m probably playing the best I’ve ever played"—he emphasized the rising standard: "So is everybody else, you need to be even better." He cited tough Pro Tour losses where opponents threw "really good stuff," keeping him "on my toes."

The win comes as Price chases major silverware, which has eluded him recently with Luke Humphries and Luke Littler dominating. He stated, "I’d love to win majors but it’s not something I put myself under pressure for," adding that staying in the world's top eight and winning money are priorities. However, he acknowledged the motivation from the "two Lukes," saying their form "has probably kicked us up the backside a bit, definitely me. I’m practising more than ever and it’s paying off."

Reflecting on the Antwerp atmosphere, Price called the crowd "decent through every game," though he noted occasional whistles and admitted struggling in the semi-finals: "I didn’t deal with it very well in the semis but I managed to get through it." He hopes the event will improve over time: "Hopefully we come here for many years and they’ll get a bit better." In the final, van Gerwen's 167 checkout at 2-0 down didn't faze Price, who responded by winning legs to seal victory.

Looking ahead to Glasgow, Price aims to build on his relaxed mindset: "Next week I’ll be even more relaxed, so hopefully I’ll play a lot better." He signed off with a bold goal: "A couple of nine-darters and hopefully win another night."
