BIRTHDAY BANTER: DARYL GURNEY TEASES MICHAEL VAN GERWEN AFTER BELGIAN DARTS OPEN THRILLER

Daryl Gurney sparked a light-hearted moment on stage after his match against Michael van Gerwen at the Belgian Darts Open on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The Northern Irishman was celebrating his birthday, but he didn't receive any presents, instead taking the chance to tease his opponent in his own way.

Host Philip Brzezinski opened the interview with Van Gerwen by referencing Gurney's birthday, saying, "It was his birthday, there were no presents whatsoever though." Gurney then turned straight to Van Gerwen and asked, "What I will say, I'm so sorry, but what age are you?" Van Gerwen replied briefly, "36."

That was all Gurney needed to fire back, declaring, "I'm four years older, but I look so much better, it's unreal." Van Gerwen wouldn't let it slide, responding instantly, "Come on, hurry up, you've got a flight to catch. You've got a flight to catch." The exchange was captured in a video shared by Oche180 on Twitter, with Gurney repeating, "What I will say, I'm four years older but I look so much better, it's unreal!" and Van Gerwen retorting, "Come on hurry up, you have a flight to catch!"
