LUKE HUMPHRIES ENDS EUROPEAN TOUR DROUGHT WITH BELGIAN DARTS OPEN TRIUMPH

Luke Humphries is back in the winner's circle on the European Tour after claiming the Belgian Darts Open title with an 8-6 victory over Jonny Clayton in the final. The world number two secured his ninth European Tour crown in front of a sold-out crowd at the Oktoberhallen in Wieze, marking his first title on the circuit since September 2025. Humphries admitted the pressure had been building, stating, "I put myself under pressure, but it's really nice to get that winning feeling again."

The final saw Clayton take an early lead by winning the opening leg, but Humphries responded with a blistering run of six straight legs to surge ahead 6-1. Key to that stretch were spectacular checkouts of 142 in the second leg and 130 in the seventh. Clayton, known for his resilience, fought back by winning four of the next five legs, highlighted by a spectacular 126 checkout on the bull after Humphries missed a 132 checkout for match darts. With the score at 7-6, Humphries sealed the match with a strong 13-darter in the fourteenth leg, praising his opponent afterwards: "Jonny is one of the most underrated dart players in the world. You cannot shake him off and big credit to him for fighting back, but this means a lot to me."

Humphries' path to the final was impressive, starting with a ton-plus average against Dirk van Duijvenbode on Saturday. On Sunday, he opened with a 6-1 win over Jermaine Wattimena, averaging over 102, then edged Chris Dobey in a deciding last leg in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, he dominated Michael van Gerwen 7-2. Reflecting on his success, Humphries emphasized the European Tour's role in his career: "The European Tour has made me the player I am. I've learnt my trade here, and I'm going to keep pushing. I'm working so hard to try and push every dart player and be the best version of myself." The 31-year-old, who is also performing strongly in the Premier League Darts, added, "I love this sport, I love being a part of it and winning trophies like this means the world to me."
