WESSEL NIJMAN CLAIMS THIRD 2026 TITLE WITH PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP 8 TRIUMPH

Wessel Nijman has continued his stunning 2026 form by securing his third ProTour title of the year, defeating Joe Cullen 8-4 in the final of the eighth Players Championship. The 25-year-old Dutchman, who earlier this year also won a Players Championship and a European Tour event, reflected on his rise, stating, "I'm living the dream life I wanted like 10 years ago." Nijman highlighted his confidence, especially on floor events, and noted the significance of being seeded number one for the first time this week.

Nijman's path to the title was far from straightforward. He had to battle through tough matches, including a razor-thin clash with compatriot Kevin Doets where Doets missed two match darts. "Maybe I didn't deserve to win that one," Nijman admitted, but he capitalized to advance. In the final, he praised Cullen's heavy scoring, describing it as "break after break after break," yet he held firm to seal the victory.

Financially, Nijman's success has brought security, allowing him to focus fully on darts after previously juggling work and sport. This calm translates to his game, as he now approaches tournaments with growing belief and without pressure. His results have earned him more prize money on the Pro Tour over the past twelve months than anyone else, boosting his confidence rather than adding pressure. Looking ahead, Nijman is set to feature in major events like the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, and European Championship, with his next action on the European Tour. As he put it, "I hope we're here so many times this year."
