Ricardo Pietreczko secured a tense 6-5 victory over Ian White at the German Darts Grand Prix in Zenith Munich on Saturday evening, marking his first European Tour win of the 2026 season. The German player described the match as "a bit mixed" in his feelings, noting that knowing White well made it harder to celebrate, and he admitted it wasn't a good game, but emphasized that "a win is a win." Pietreczko's nerves were evident in the deciding leg when, with 49 remaining, he overdrew on a shot at single 17 and hit treble 17 instead.
In an exclusive interview with DartsNews on YouTube, Pietreczko explained that the pressure stemmed from it being his first European Tour event of the year, which was important for the Order of Merit and qualifying for upcoming events. He stated, "It was quite difficult for me to keep everything under control." Despite this, he highlighted his recent consistency on the Pro Tour, with two board finals and a last 16 appearance, saying he's been "more consistent again on the floor" compared to the last two years, and hopes to build on that improvement.
The win advances Pietreczko to the second round, where he will face Nathan Aspinall, last season's number one on the European Tour Order of Merit. Pietreczko expressed confidence, saying, "I always want to play, no matter who it's against," and noted they have played each other quite a few times, adding with a laugh that "the better player will win." Off the oche, he mentioned switching equipment supplier to Precise180 at the start of the season, feeling comfortable with his new prototype set to be released soon.
