Multiple prominent players have pulled out of Players Championship Events 3 and 4, set to be played on Monday and Tuesday, with Germany's Martin Schindler and Ryan Searle among the latest withdrawals. The PDC updated its absentee list, confirming that Schindler and newly crowned Tour Card holder Matthias Ehlers will not compete in Wigan, alongside Searle and Dutchman Christian Kist, who is forced to take recurring breaks due to a gout condition.
Schindler's withdrawal follows a challenging start to the season; at the Players Championship Tour opener last week, he lost his first match 0-6 with an average of just 66 points. However, on day two, he showed improved form with a run to the second round and averages between 91 and 95 points. The PDC had previously announced that Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, and Gary Anderson will also miss the two tournaments, with Joe Hunt, Martijn Dragt, and Jack Tweddell moving into the Pro Tour lineup for that trio.
