MICHAEL SMITH SEALS EUROPEAN TOUR RETURN AS CRISTO REYES STAYS PERFECT IN BELGIAN DARTS OPEN QUALIFIER

The Belgian Darts Open 2026 is scheduled to take place from Friday 20 March to Sunday 22 March, marking the third event of the year on the European Tour calendar. Ten players secured their spots through a qualifier, with Michael Smith making his European Tour return as one of the only big names to come through. Smith defeated Ian White 6-4 in the final round, averaging 96.73 to White's 95.04, after earlier wins over Robert Owen and Marvin van Velzen. Meanwhile, Peter Wright won his first game of the season but was defeated by Lukas Wenig, and Rob Cross fell to Sebastian Bialecki in the penultimate round, while Dimitri van den Bergh lost in the first round and will miss his home tournament.

Cristo Reyes maintained his perfect record in European Tour qualification, beating Chris Landman 6-4 with a 95 average after previous victories over Madars Razma and Niall Culleton. Ryan Meikle also qualified, pinning a nine-dart finish and defeating Adam Paxton 6-4 in the final match, while Scott Williams secured his return by taking down Stephen Rosney 6-4. Other qualifiers included Adam Gawlas, who ended Stephen Burton's hopes, Sietse Lap making his debut with a 6-5 win over Max Hopp, Sebastian Bialecki seeing off Mickey Mansell 6-3, and Thibault Tricole eliminating Ricky Evans. Tyler Thorpe and Lukas Wenig completed the line-up after impressive series.

Detailed results from the qualifier show key matches: Sebastian Bialecki beat Mickey Mansell 6-3 (averages 90.45 vs 90.91), Sietse Lap edged Max Hopp 6-5 (88.41 vs 89.78), Thibault Tricole defeated Ricky Evans 6-3 (91.12 vs 87.53), Tyler Thorpe won 6-2 over David Sharp (87.59 vs 81.28), Lukas Wenig beat Rhys Griffin 6-4 (92.23 vs 91.54), Adam Gawlas triumphed 6-3 over Stephen Burton (97.36 vs 85.49), and Ryan Meikle's 6-4 win over Adam Paxton featured averages of 88.7 and 81.35. In earlier rounds, Bialecki stunned Rob Cross 6-2 (103.3 vs 97.8), Wenig ousted Peter Wright 6-5 (92.87 vs 98.06), and Reyes topped Madars Razma 6-4 (91.14 vs 92.22). The second qualifier for the German Darts Grand Prix in Munich is set to follow, with Beau Greaves entered but not playing in the first qualifier.
