The PDC has officially unveiled the international qualification structure for the 2027 World Darts Championship, with a historic highlight: for the first time ever, two guaranteed spots will be awarded to players from Africa. The tournament, set to feature a field of no fewer than 128 players competing at Alexandra Palace for the Sid Waddell Trophy, boasts a total prize fund of £5 million. Direct qualification will see the top forty players on the main PDC Order of Merit and the top forty highest-ranked, not-yet-qualified players from the ProTour Order of Merit secure their places, with the remaining 48 spots filled via international qualifiers.
This groundbreaking development for Africa follows the notable appearance of Kenyan David Munyua at Alexandra Palace last December. The two African places will be allocated through the African Darts Group, with one qualifier in North Africa and another in Southern Africa each delivering a World Championship participant. Elsewhere, Asia receives significant representation: five spots go to the highest-ranked players on the PDC Asian Tour, while the two finalists at the Asian Championship, the PDC China champion, and the winners of qualifiers in India and Japan also secure berths.
Other regions are well-covered in the qualification pathway. On the Championship Darts Corporation circuit in North America, five places are on offer, and in the Nordic & Baltic region, three spots will be awarded. Women's darts continues to be highlighted, with four women guaranteed a place—the winner of the Women's World Matchplay qualifies directly, along with the top three on the Women's Series Order of Merit. Youth talent also gets its chance: the top three from both the Development Tour and the Challenge Order of Merit qualify, as does the reigning PDC World Youth Champion, and at least two players will earn spots via the Tour Card Holder Qualifier.
The full list of international qualifiers includes specific pathways such as the PDCE Dutch & Belgian Qualifier, PDCE Mediterranean Qualifier, PDCE South-East European Qualifier, PDCE Czech Qualifier, PDO Polish Qualifier, winner of the PDCE DACH Super League, winner of the Hungarian Super League, PDC UK & Ireland Tour Card Holder & Associate Member Qualifier, winner of the CDC Continental Cup, winner of the CDC Cross-Border Challenge, winner of the North American Championship, highest-ranked American and Canadian on the CDC ranking, CDLC Qualifier, winner of the PDC Nordic & Baltic Championship, winner and runner-up of the PDCNB ProTour, winner of the ANZ Premier League, winner of the ADA Australian Tour, winner of the DPNZ ProTour, a to-be-confirmed Australia/New Zealand Qualifier, and two places yet to be confirmed. This comprehensive structure ensures a diverse global field for the 2027 showcase at Ally Pally.
