Andrew Gilding has etched his name into an unwanted piece of darts history, becoming the player with the most Pro Tour finals appearances without a victory. The Englishman's curse continued last weekend when he lost his seventh final on the circuit, leaving him with a painful zero from seven. The latest blow came at Players Championship 6, where Gerwyn Price proved too strong in the final with an 8-1 win over the 55-year-old.
This defeat was stark but not unique in Gilding's run of near-misses. Earlier, at European Tour 6 in 2025, he was whitewashed 8-0 by Gary Anderson. Yet the results don't tell the whole story: in 2022, Gilding came eerily close to a title several times, losing 8-6 to Dave Chisnall at ET12, by the same score against Danny Noppert at PC19, and also bowing 8-6 to Geert Nentjes at PC9. Even his first two Pro Tour finals in 2014 ended in disappointment, with 6-5 defeats to both Gary Anderson at PC1 and Stephen Bunting at UKQ2.
What stands out most is that four of the seven lost finals were decided by just one or two legs, underscoring how fine the margins are at this level. Time and again, Gilding has shown the game to reach finals, but at the decisive moments, the coin keeps landing the wrong way for him. He now tops the unenviable list for most Pro Tour finals without a win, ahead of Gabriel Clemens, Ricky Evans, and Wayne Jones, who each have six finals and no victory.
