PODCAST HOSTS DEBATE PETER WRIGHT'S FUTURE: 'I CAN'T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I SAW PETER WRIGHT THROW AND THOUGHT, THAT'S PETER WRIGHT'

The DartsNews Podcast has sparked a debate over whether Peter Wright is entering the final chapter of his PDC career, with host Kieran Wood stating bluntly, "I think yes." On episode two, Wood and Nicolas Gayer discussed Wright's form crisis, with Wood noting, "I'm not happy to say that because I do love Peter Wright, but yeah, things aren't looking good for him, are they?" He added, "I can't remember the last time I saw Peter Wright throw and I thought that's Peter Wright, you know what I mean?"

The concern stems from a steady decline since 2025, highlighted by Wright failing to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts for the first time since 2012, an early World Championship exit, and poor ProTour performances in 2026, including a 6-0 defeat with an average in the low 70s. Wood pointed out that Wright has slipped outside the world's top 32 after around 15 years, losing European Tour automatic qualification and seeded protection. In a segment on the biggest losers of 2026, Wood grouped Wright with Raymond van Barneveld, saying, "They've just been really bad, struggling for performances, barely a win between them."

Wood identified Wright's last recognisable performance as "probably against Luke Humphries at the Worlds," over a year ago, emphasizing the gradual nature of the decline. Unlike van Barneveld, whose desire is questioned, Wright's commitment isn't in doubt; Wood said, "Wright doesn't need the money. He wants to be there and it's just still not producing, is it?" However, the podcast offered a glimmer of hope, citing Mensur Suljovic's resurgence as an example that a revival is possible, with Wood suggesting Wright should look at Suljovic's case. Despite Wright's legacy, including World Championships in 2020 and 2022, Premier League nights, and major finals, the question remains: Are we witnessing Snakebite's final chapter?
