Jonny Clayton has set his sights on a dream all-Welsh final with Gerwyn Price at the Premier League Darts night in Cardiff, admitting he has "put pressure on Gezzy there as well." The Welshman, who is competing in the Premier League this year, expressed his excitement about performing in front of his home crowd for the first time in three years, calling the Welsh crowd "second to none" and Cardiff his "favourite arena." He emphasized the unique atmosphere, stating, "You can ask Gezzy the same question — there's no better place."
Clayton, the 2021 Premier League champion, currently sits near the top of the table after a strong start to the campaign. He highlighted the importance of consistency, noting that taking chances on doubles has been key, and aims to secure two points each week to maintain his position. However, he remains focused on his first match, saying, "My aim is just to try and get over that first game," after referencing a heavy 6-0 defeat to Stephen Bunting the previous week, where Bunting averaged 104.
Looking ahead, Clayton dreams of hitting a nine-darter in Cardiff, inspired by Josh Rock's perfect leg the previous week. He also discussed the tight scheduling, with the UK Open in Minehead immediately following the Cardiff event, calling it "the FA Cup of darts." Despite the pressure of a home crowd, he insists his preparation remains unchanged, going to the practice room four hours before his game to work on doubling and scoring.
