Vincent van der Voort has expressed bewilderment over the fallout from Danny Noppert's comments about the World Series events in Australia, calling the escalation unnecessary and accusing those involved of acting like "fools." Speaking on the Darts Draait Door podcast, the former professional described the controversy as stemming from a simple miscommunication that was blown out of proportion by managers, officials, and others.
The confusion began when Noppert discussed a possible trip to the World Series later this year on the podcast, with his remarks interpreted as him having declined an invitation due to a pre-booked holiday. Van der Voort noted that Noppert's management denied this, but he pointed out that Noppert did say it, leading to a statement accusing the media of lying. "I'm thinking, what are we doing here? Everyone starts acting like fools, and it really wasn't necessary," Van der Voort said.
According to Van der Voort, the issue could have been resolved easily if Noppert had simply clarified that his words came out wrong. Instead, the situation escalated with the PDC and managers getting involved, turning it into a "big thing." He emphasized that Noppert meant he wouldn't go to Australia anyway, even if invited, but the phrasing led to misunderstandings.
Van der Voort also disagreed with the official response suggesting the media twisted the story, stating that Noppert literally said he had turned it down because of a holiday in the podcast. He argued that a quick explanation could have settled the matter, calling it a "storm in a teacup" and criticizing the unnecessary drama. "You can just say it was a slip of the tongue and that he wasn't going anyway. Then it's done," he concluded.
