Scottish teenage darts sensation Mitchell Lawrie, nicknamed "Wee Sox," has openly declared his ambition to partner with two-time world champion Gary Anderson for Scotland at the PDC World Cup of Darts. The 15-year-old from Renfrew told Oche180, "Before Gary leaves, that would be the dream," acknowledging the 40-year age gap between them but remaining undeterred. Lawrie is already making waves on the WDF circuit, having reached the final on his Lakeside debut and claimed seven WDF-ranked titles, showcasing his rapid rise in the sport.
However, Lawrie recognizes that the road to the Scottish national team is challenging due to the country's strong player pool. Besides Anderson, regular candidates for World Cup selection include Peter Wright, Cameron Menzies, and Alan Soutar. Lawrie commented on Wright's longevity, saying, "Peter says he still has many years left in him. If you know yourself you can still do it, I believe he still can." He added, "I believe Peter is still a great player. On his day, he is just as dangerous as anybody else," noting that Anderson and Wright represented Scotland at the 2025 World Cup of Darts, where they faced a Netherlands side featuring Gian van Veen and Danny Noppert.
If Lawrie transitions to the PDC, he anticipates a small change: his walk-on music. Currently using "The Glen" by Belaga Lagoon, the same as Cameron Menzies, he would need a unique track in the PDC. Lawrie joked, "I say we play a game of rock, paper, scissors! I've got a few in mind," but admitted he doesn't currently know what he would choose. As he continues his development, the coming years will be crucial in determining whether his dream of partnering with Anderson becomes a reality, potentially creating a Scottish duo of legend and teenage phenomenon.
