GRAND SLAM OF DARTS UNVEILS MAJOR 2026 OVERHAUL WITH EXPANDED 48-PLAYER FIELD AND NEW QUALIFICATION PATHS

The Grand Slam of Darts is set for a fundamental transformation in 2026, as the PDC has confirmed a revised qualification structure to accompany the tournament's expansion to a 48-player field. Still staged at WV Active Aldersley in Wolverhampton from November 14 to 22, the event will see prize money rise to £1 million, with £200,000 reserved for the champion, positioning it as a key event ahead of the PDC World Darts Championship.

Up to 24 automatic places will be awarded to winners and runners-up from PDC Premier events contested between the 2025 and 2026 Grand Slams, including all ranked majors, the Premier League Darts, and the World Cup of Darts. This approach rewards success on big stages directly, rather than through the Order of Merit, and has already locked in names like Luke Littler, who will attempt a third consecutive title after going unbeaten in his first two appearances, and Luke Humphries as last year's runner-up. Finalists from the PDC World Darts Championships are also guaranteed entry.

Beyond automatic qualifiers, 12 places are reserved to maintain the tournament's inclusive status, ensuring entry for World Youth Championship finalists from 2025 and 2026, the Women's World Matchplay champion, and winners from designated regional events across Asia, North America, Europe, and Oceania. This pathway has already been activated by Beau Greaves, who secured her place after reaching the final of the 2025 World Youth Championship.

Once these routes are exhausted, the field will be filled to 40 players using European Tour event winners, with Players Championship winners only considered if further places remain. The final eight spots will be decided at a Tour Card holder qualifier on November 6, emphasizing televised wins and standout achievements over week-to-week floor consistency. Players progressing from the group stage will earn at least £12,500, highlighting the financial stakes of survival in the tournament.
