Jonny Clayton has cast serious doubt on his future participation in the PDC European Tour, hinting he may skip tournaments on the European mainland if travel issues for players aren't resolved soon. The Welshman, known as 'The Ferret', is part of a growing group of top players furious after a chaotic journey to the Belgian Darts Open, where British darters have faced increasing difficulties since Brexit, with manual passport checks leading to waiting times stretching to several hours.
Clayton's frustration was palpable in his comments: "It might be a serious conversation because at the end of the day I ain't standing in queues for nothing. Two hour queues no chance, no way. I am a miserable git anyway. Hopefully it gets better if it does, you will see a lot more of me. If it don't you ain't going to see me. That is life." This comes despite his excellent form on the oche, as he convincingly reached the final of the Belgian Darts Open, only conceding to Luke Humphries in the decider, and currently sits second in the Premier League Darts table with two nightly titles.
Amid the travel woes, Clayton remains focused on his game, stating, "I just think about my game. I don't really care about anybody else, to be honest with you. I just want to be there on Finals Night. I have to find a way of doing something to get there. That is the name of the game. I have been there before, I know what to do. I need to be there in Week 17 and that's all I care about. I don't care about any other player." With little time to dwell, he is gearing up for Night Nine of the Premier League in Manchester, where he faces Josh Rock, an opponent who only picked up his very first points last week.
