HISTORY MADE AT PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP 7: RECORD 180S SMASH 600 BARRIER FOR FIRST TIME

A new chapter has been written in the PDC Pro Tour record books, as Players Championship 7 set a historic milestone by becoming the first tournament to break the 600-mark for 180s in a single day of play. This officially makes it the new record holder for the highest number of maximums ever thrown during a ProTour event, underscoring the rising standard in professional darts where players are increasingly consistent on the treble and racking up heavy scoring at a blistering pace.

The previous record was set last year at Players Championship 2, which produced 596 180s. The match format at Players Championship events, with a large number of matches packed into one day and many short-format ties, gives players ample opportunity to showcase their scoring power, allowing 180s to pile up rapidly when form is there. Breaking the 600 mark appears to have set a new benchmark, raising the question of how long it will take before this barrier is pushed again, with the appetite for more records and spectacular darts bigger than ever.

Ryan Searle won the seventh Players Championship where this history was made. In related news, the eighth Players Championship was won yesterday by Wessel Nijman, who proved too strong for Joe Cullen in the final with an 8-4 victory. The Players Championship now takes a two-week break before resuming in Wigan with the ninth event on Monday, April 13th.
