Luke Littler's friend and content creator Angry Ginge has leaped to the defence of the young world champion, insisting that behind the scenes, Littler is strikingly down-to-earth. Speaking on the Double Top podcast, Angry Ginge described Littler as "so chilled out, it's unbelievable," recounting how before the World Championship final against Gian van Veen, Littler's warm-up involved throwing a few darts and having a margherita pizza.
Angry Ginge highlighted Littler's calm demeanor under pressure, noting that after van Veen won the first set, Littler looked over to his friends and said "no more" before going on to win the next seven sets. He emphasized that this wasn't arrogance but trust in his ability, stating, "He's such a genuine guy, and I don't think people realise how down-to-earth he really is." He added that Littler prefers to be treated normally despite his success.
Comparing Littler's popularity to that of major sporting icons, Angry Ginge said, "Being mates with him is pretty cool. It's like being friends with Ronaldo!" He attributed their bond to shared background, noting Littler lives only 40 minutes away and is a credit to himself and his family.
Addressing criticism and crowd reactions, Angry Ginge acknowledged Littler initially struggled with media attention but has grown more comfortable in interviews. He dismissed boos as likely stemming from fans wanting others to win, not Littler's behavior. "Sometimes what he says can come across a little cocky, but there's absolutely no way that's what he's aiming to do," he concluded. "He's not cocky or arrogant, he's the most down-to-earth guy you'll ever meet."
