Vincent van der Voort has criticized Mensur Suljovic's on-stage behavior, describing it as a deliberate tactic that "irritates everyone." Speaking on the podcast Darts Draait Door, the former professional highlighted Suljovic's idiosyncratic style, which he says regularly knocks opponents out of their rhythm, citing a recent Pro Tour season match against Justin Hood as an example.
Van der Voort noted that Hood, who usually doesn't get distracted easily, showed clear signs of annoyance during the match, pointing at times and engaging in back-and-forth with Suljovic. He attributed this to the Austrian's self-focused approach, where Suljovic "plays his own tournament, for himself and his family" and uses mind games, such as pretending not to understand English when it suits him. "He definitely understands what's being said, but then he plays the innocent. That winds everyone up. It's a clever tactic," Van der Voort said.
Reflecting on personal experience, Van der Voort recalled his own frustration in a 2019 Euro Tour match against Suljovic, where he pulled out his phone on stage to check a PSV football match score. He admitted it wasn't professional and resulted in a fine, but emphasized it stemmed from pure frustration and curiosity, not a deliberate protest. "I'm not proud of it either," he added, underscoring the challenging dynamic Suljovic creates for his opponents.
