16-YEAR-OLD KYLE GILDING SECURES DREAM UK OPEN DEBUT AMONG COMMUNITY QUALIFIER SUCCESSES

Sixteen-year-old Kyle Gilding has booked a dream debut at the UK Open after qualifying through the PDC in the Community Qualifiers last weekend in Syston. The young talent will take to the big stage from March 6 to 8 at the iconic Butlin’s Minehead Resort, earning a spot in the 160-player field and his first TV appearance at a major PDC tournament. Gilding, who showed class and mental resilience at the Syston Brookside Club, is also set to make his Winmau Development Tour debut later this month—a crucial stepping stone for young players aiming for the professional level.

Gilding was not alone in securing a UK Open berth via the Community Qualifiers. Jack Todd qualified in Fleetwood, while Clive Langford and Callum Francis secured their tickets in Newport and Kings Worthy respectively. Francis, a carpenter by trade, has been active on the PDC circuit for several years and made headlines in November 2024 with a quarterfinal run on the Winmau Challenge Tour, highlighting that these qualifiers serve both emerging talent and seasoned players seeking an alternative route.

Meanwhile, players without a PDC Tour Card can also qualify through the Rileys Amateur Qualifiers. Last weekend, Ron Meulenkamp—active on the Pro Tour between 2018 and 2022—booked his place by winning the Rileys Qualifier in Liverpool. Meulenkamp has previously reached the fifth round of the UK Open in both 2021 and 2022. In recent weeks, Callum Goffin, Neil Wild, Sean Ryan, Daniel Lee, and Olivier King have also secured their spots via Rileys Qualifiers, with the final two events scheduled for next weekend.

The series of Community Qualifiers is not yet complete, with several events to follow in the coming weeks offering more tickets for Minehead. This keeps the UK Open true to its nickname, “The FA Cup of Darts,” where anyone can qualify and upsets are always lurking.
