Mark Webster has given an update on his health after being temporarily absent from various darts broadcasts as an analyst in recent weeks. The 42-year-old Welshman, who became a mainstay on TV after his playing career, revealed he is currently undergoing treatment for a medical condition, the details of which have not been made public. Webster has been a familiar face on Sky Sports broadcasts, regularly delivering analysis and commentary during major tournaments such as the World Darts Championship and the Premier League Darts, and was recently announced as part of ITV's revamped darts team, which covers several major PDC events throughout the year.
Speaking on the Love The Darts podcast, Webster addressed his health and recovery process. "Something just cropped up," he explained. "I'm having a bit of treatment and slowly it seems to be working. So hopefully in another month it'll be reassessed and I'm hoping to get back, because I've missed far too much already and I want to get back." The former world champion admitted it has been difficult watching events unfold without being part of the broadcasts, adding, "As much as I like watching the darts, it's not the same as being involved. So I'm quite eager to get back."
Despite his absence from television coverage, Webster says he still appreciates opportunities to stay involved with the sport, noting, "At least I get to chat to you guys. So it's nice to sort of still be involved, isn't it?" He also revealed that support from fans has meant a great deal while he has been away from the screen, saying, "I've had some nice messages over social media. It's been really nice." For now, the focus is on his recovery, with Webster hoping to return to the screen in the near future if the next medical evaluation is positive.
